Vel Phillips Middle School | Oshkosh, WI | October, 2023

Thank you to Dr. Bryan Davis, Principal Kristi Levy, and the Paine Art Center, for the sustained attention and care of my Vel Phillips Portrait (in blue). She has traveled with me to classrooms and galleries, and has been the focal point of close looking activities and group meditations. I love this painting because I associate my memories of the creative process with precious opportunities to share space with Vel Phillips towards the end of her vibrant life. Her handwriting is there, on the surface of the canvas - a charged statement of encouragement to "continue onward."
