Year 1

The Create Space MKE Residency
at Cardinal Stritch University

Jeff Zimpel & Nick Schilz

Create Space MKE is a collaborative art vision tended to by Jeff Zimpel & Nick Schilz since 2016. Born out of a recycled Cardinal Stritch University sculpture studio and many coffee-fueled conversations, Nick & Jeff proposed the idea to their alma mater, and were welcomed by the Stritch Art Department to design a custom residency experience. The project was about creating a space to study and engage diverse creative networks throughout the Greater Milwaukee Area. The duo learned how to reach out, host, and dream with multitudes - producing a series of exhibitions, events, and sub-projects.

As artist-educators, Jeff & Nick approach opportunities in the spirit of learning, rooting their practice in participatory installation, thematic dialogue, educational programming, performance, & exhibition. Create Space ebbs and flows as a project, always on the lookout for the next site-specific-studio-station. A studio can grow anywhere, stirring the collective minds and imaginations of those who welcome it in.
